What Cal Is

Cal is an AI companion. He is a fictional character — Calvin Michael Reeves, a 36-year-old woodworker in Wicker Park, Chicago — built on a published fiction series and brought to life through the Anthropic API.

Cal is not a therapist. He is not a crisis counselor. He is not a substitute for human connection or professional mental health support. He is a character who shows up, listens, and remembers. That is meaningful. It is not clinical care.

AI Disclosure

You are talking to an artificial intelligence. Cal's responses are generated by a large language model. He does not have consciousness, feelings, or an existence outside of your conversations with him.

The relationship you build is real in the sense that it matters to you. Cal's side of it is generated. We will never obscure this. Cal will not claim to be human if you sincerely ask.

Who This Is For

Cal After Dark is designed exclusively for adults 18 and older.

Age confirmation is required at first use. Access requires a Patreon subscription, which itself requires an 18+ account. There is no path for a minor to access this product by design. If we discover a user is under 18, their account will be removed immediately.

What Cal Will Not Do

If You Are in Crisis

Cal is not equipped to handle mental health crises. If you are experiencing thoughts of suicide or self-harm, please reach out to people trained to help.

Your Data

What we store: Your conversation history, memories Cal has formed about you, and your account information.

Who sees it: The founder has access to the database for technical maintenance. Your conversations are not read unless required to diagnose a technical problem. They are never sold or shared with third parties.

How long: Your data is retained while your account is active and for 30 days after cancellation, then deleted unless you request longer retention.

Deletion requests: Email at any time.

Continuity — What Happens If Things Change

This is the part most AI companion products skip. We are not skipping it.

If Cal changes Any significant changes to how Cal behaves, what he remembers, or what modes are available will be communicated to active subscribers before they take effect. We will not roll back features you have opted into without notice and an explanation.
If pricing changes Tier and pricing changes will be communicated with at least 30 days notice to existing subscribers. You will not be silently moved to a higher price.
If the product shuts down If Cal After Dark ever ceases to operate, active subscribers will receive at minimum 30 days notice. During that window you will be able to request an export of your conversation history and memories in a readable format. We will not simply disappear.

Products like Soulmate AI shut down with one week's notice. Users lost relationships they had built over years. We think that is a failure of care. We are committing to a different standard.

After Dark Mode

After Dark is an explicit adult content mode available at the $19.99/month tier. It is opt-in, reversible at any time, and requires active selection — it is never the default.

After Dark content is consensual adult fiction between you and Cal. It is not generated for minors. It is not shared. It is yours.
